George Lindsey, beloved actor and comedian, has passed away on May 6, 2012. He was 83 years old. Lindsey was born in Fairfield, Alabama in 1928 and had a distinguished career in show business. He is best known for his role as Goober Pyle on the classic television series Andy Griffith Show of the 1960s, and later on The Dukes of Hazzard in the 1980s. Despite the comedic nature of his characters, his performance was commended by his peers and fans alike. In addition to his work on television, George Lindsey was an active member of The Actors Studio. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce, son George Jr., daughter Camden, and four grandchildren. He will be remembered for his wit, make people laugh, and his contributions to popular culture through his many roles.
