Ike Turner, born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on November 5, 1931, passed away on December 12, 2007 at the age of 76. Ike was known primarily for his noteworthy contributions to music throughout his career, spanning more than 60 years. As a pioneering musician, singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, he was instrumental in redefining the rhythm and blues genre and for launching Rock & Roll with his hit recording of "Rocket 88" in 1951. Throughout his career, Ike worked with countless of music legends, both as collaborator and producer. He began his own career as a musician at the age of 12, playing on Howlin' Wolf's radio program in Memphis and eventually garnered a reputation as one of the greatest producers in the music industry in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Ike won his first Grammy for his solo album, Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm Dance: Live! atop of winning numerous awards, and he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement awards from both the GRAMMY and Rhythm & Blues Foundations. He was inducted in both The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and The St. Louis Walk of Fame in 1991 as an individual for his career-long influence and contributions to music. Ike is survived by his four sons, Ike Turner, Jr., Ronnie Turner, Tarnell Turner, Michael Turner, and two daughters Twanna Turner Burke and Mia Turner. He will be remembered for the impact he left on the music industry and the many lives he touched through his legacy.
