James Foley, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on August 19, 2014 at the age of 40. James was born in the town of Rochester, New Hampshire. He spent his formative years in Wolfeboro and Global Exploration & Leadership Academy (GELA). He later graduated from Marquette University and received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts. James was a renowned and brave journalist, having traveled to many foreign countries to report on the news. He was captured and held hostage for over two years by Islamic State militants while reporting in Syria in 2012. He will be remembered for his compassion, sense of humor, and his dedication to reporting and staying true to his values. James is survived by his parents, Diane and John, his brother, Michael, and his two sisters, Katie and Heather. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Foley and his nephew, Fynn Joel. James will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all those who were blessed to know him.
