Today we mourn the death of Mohammed Emwazi, known as Jihadi John, who passed away peacefully in an airstrike on November 12, 2015. Mohammed was born in Kuwait in 1988, and moved to Britain in 1994. After traveling to Syria in 2012, he became a high-profile member of the Islamic State group and was elevated to a role in which he personally executed several hostages. He was seen across the world as an instrumental propagandist, executing videos involving the beheadings of hostages such as Warren Weinstein, James Foley, Peter Kassig, Stephen Sotloff, David Haines, Alan Henning, Kenji Goto, and Kayla Mueller. Mohammed is survived by his parents and siblings. This death is a reminder of the human cost of war and a somber reminder of the suffering endured by people around the world.
