On October 2, 2018, Jamal Khashoggi, aged 59, passed away. Jamal was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1959. He began his career in journalism in the 1980s, writing for various Saudi newspapers. In the 2000s, he transitioned to writing for Al-Hayat and then the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat. He was an advocate for a more open and progressive Saudi society. In 2017, he relocated to the United States and started contributing to The Washington Post. He continued to be a vocal critic of Saudi’s government, advocating for reform. Khashoggi is survived by his two sons. His death leaves a void in the journalistic and Middle Eastern community. He will be remembered for his courage and advocacy.
