John Paul Getty Jr., passed away suddenly at the age of 70, on April 17th, 2003. John was born on June 7th, 1932, to Jean Paul Getty and Ann Rork. Born into incredible wealth, John was the eldest son among five children. He made countless philanthropic contributions during his lifetime, donating to organizations such as the League Against Cruel Sports, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and Action on Addiction. John was the co-founder of the Santa Clarita Ballet Company, and supported numerous organizations dedicated to rural development in South Africa. He traveled frequently in Africa, and documented his visits in the photography book “Africa’s Last Great Places”, which he co-authored. John is survived by his brother William and sisters Aileen, Margaret, and Ariadne. He was preceded in death by his father, Jean Paul Getty. John Paul Getty Jr. will be remembered fondly by family, friends and colleagues alike.
