Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister, legendary frontman of Motörhead and rock icon, passed away on December 28, 2015 at the age of 70 after a short battle against an aggressive form of cancer. Influenced by classic rock, blues, punk and thrash, he and his band Motörhead created their own pioneering sound through their aggressive lyrics and fast beats. They released their first album in 1977 and Lemmy often referred to his music as “Rock and Roll”. Lemmy toured for more than 40 years with Motörhead, preferring to stay on the road rather than retire. Over the years, Lemmy and his band picked up numerous awards including two Grammy Awards and a Metal Hammer Golden God award. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Lemmy is survived by his son, Paul Inder, and is remembered by family, fans and friends alike as one of the most iconic and influential figures of heavy metal and rock and roll.
