It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Munshi Premchand, one of the most beloved authors and playwrights of Indian literature. He died on October 8th, 1936, at the age of 56. Munshi Premchand was a seminal figure in the world of Hindi and Urdu literature. He is best known for his short stories and novels that delved into the lives of ordinary people. His writing was marked by a unique blend of compassion and realism. He often wrote scathing critiques of the ways in which colonial power and poverty were intertwined. Born in the small village of Lamahi, in Uttar Pradesh, India on July 31st, 1880, Premchand was an advocate for social justice from an early age. He was committed to a wide range of human rights causes, often writing about the plight of the underprivileged. He penned over 300 short stories, 14 novels, and several plays throughout his lifetime. He is considered one of the most influential authors of modern Indian literature.
