Rajiv Gandhi, the youngest and the seventh Prime Minister of India, died on 21 May 1991 at the young age of 46. Born on 20 August 1944 in Bombay (now Mumbai) to India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and his wife Kamala Nehru, Rajiv was the first of their two children. After receiving education at The Doon School and Trinity College, Cambridge, Rajiv returned home to India and served for a few years in the Indian Airlines where he was a professional pilot. In 1981, Rajiv was appointed Prime Minister following the assassination of his mother, India's first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. During his term as Prime Minister, Rajiv was credited with strengthening India's economy and making it more tech-friendly, as well as promoting religious tolerance. Rajiv Gandhi is fondly remembered for his commitment to serving the people of India and for his unwavering dedication that laid the foundation of a strong and progressive India. Though his life was short-lived, his accomplishments and vision continue to inspiring many to this day.
