On Saturday, October 10, 2009, the world lost a talented singer, songwriter and performer, Stephen Gately, aged 33. Stephen was an Irish singer, best known for being a member of the band Boyzone. Stephen was born in March of 1976, and first joined a band in 1992 with Boyzone’s traditional Irish lineup. With Boyzone, Stephen enjoyed a platinum-selling career in the 1990s. They released six studio albums, including five number ones, and sixteen singles, including four number ones. His solo work included covers of well-known songs, with different genres ranging from pop to musical theatre. Stephen was an active member of various charities, pioneering gay activism in the Irish music scene - something he was very proud of. He went on to appear in several theatre productions and wrote books, including a successful autobiography. He is survived by his husband and two sisters. He will be deeply missed and remembered in the hearts of family and friends.
